Geodesic Illumination Basis: Compensating for Illumination Variations in any Pose for Face Recognition
نویسندگان
چکیده
This paper proposes a new model of illumination variations of the object appearance, culled the geodesic illumination basis model. It calculates poseindependent illumination buses on a 30 model, and these buses are warped into view-dependent buses in any pose. We experimentally evaluate how many illumination samples and buses are necessary, and show that our model can compensate for any illumination vutiutions in any pose. A face recognition system incorporating our proposed model is constructed, and its performance is tested using a database of 30 models and test images of-42 individuals captured in drastically diffeting pose and illumination conditions. Our system achieves a first-choice success ratio of 97.3% when the position and pose of the target face are known.

Pose and Illumination Invariant Registration and Tracking for Video-based Face Recognition
Pose and illumination variations remain a persistent problem in face recognition algorithms. In this paper we present a method for accurately estimating the pose and illumination conditions, and use it for registration and tracking in video-based face recognition algorithms. This is achieved by using a joint motion, illumination and shape model that is bilinear in the motion and illumination va...
متن کامل3D Face Recognition using Patch Geodesic Derivative Pattern
In this paper, a novel Patch Geodesic Derivative Pattern (PGDP) describing the texture map of a face through its shape data is proposed. Geodesic adjusted textures are encoded into derivative patterns for similarity measurement between two 3D images with different pose and expression variations. An extensive experimental investigation is conducted using the publicly available Bosphorus and BU-3...
متن کاملPose-Encoded Spherical Harmonics for Robust Face Recognition Using a Single Image
Face recognition under varying pose is a challenging problem, especially when illumination variations are also present. Under Lambertian model, spherical harmonics representation has proved to be effective in modelling illumination variations for a given pose. In this paper, we extend the spherical harmonics representation to encode pose information. More specifically, we show that 2D harmonic ...
